Rome, June 26, 2024 – There are more than 700 Trademarks registered in the Special Register of Historical Trademarks of National Interest established by the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, which has grown by 20 percent year-on-year. The agribusiness sector, to which 49 percent of enterprises belong, prevails. Also strong were automation and motors, accounting for 20 percent of the total, and furniture, which stood at 18 percent of the total. Fashion and clothing, on the other hand, remain on 13 percent.

With the aim of giving even more impetus to the protection and enhancement of Historical Trademarks, the Association today held its first public assembly in Rome at the Unioncamere headquarters, also to take stock of the initiatives promoted in favor of the sector, which represents tradition and innovation.

“The Association aims to protect, enhance and promote the Historical Trademarks of Italian tradition, the backbone of the country’s economy and our industrial culture, a true heritage of excellence.” Commented Massimo Caputi, President ofAssociation of Italian Historical Trademarks. “With the cooperation of the institutions and together with our Members we want to continue on this path, safeguarding the production identity of our supply chains. So we are thrilled with the many companies that have joined us this past year, and we are confident that together we can achieve important results in favor of the sector. Being a Historical Trademark represents a guarantee for the consumer.”

Among the goals the Association has already achieved are: the Identitalia exhibition “The Italian Iconic Brands” set up from February to April at Palazzo Piacentini, home of Mimit, and dedicated to a selection of more than 100 Historical Trademarks and iconic brands, the establishment of the National Day of Made in Italy, the inclusion of Historical Trademarks in the permanent National Exhibition of Made in Italy and in the Businesses and Skills Foundation, and the preservation of historical archives through membership in the Cultural and Creative Enterprises Register.

With the upcoming Budget Law, the Association aims to obtain some measures in favor of Historical Trademarks and for this, discussions with institutions and the Ministries of Enterprise, Tourism, Culture and Agriculture are underway. Among the proposals, several are fiscal in nature, such as the tax credit on investments for digitization of historical archives, concessions for those Historical Trademarks companies that encourage the birth and in-house development of innovative new businesses, or incentives on capital holdings in supply chain companies in case the Historical Trademarks company is supply chain leader. Also not to be forgotten is the proposed revaluation of the Historical Trademark on the balance sheet and the inclusion of the productions of Historical Trademark enterprises among typical handicraft and industrial enterprises. There are also many initiatives being developed at the tourist-cultural level, such as the proposed creation of tourist and museum circuits of historic companies designed for visitors who want to discover the company’s heritage, and those dedicated to the export of Made in Italy in the world: on the occasion of the stages of the Amerigo Vespucci mission, for example, the Association intends to take the Identitalia exhibition “The Italian Iconic Brands” to the main countries of interest for exports under the direction of ITA (Italian Trade Agency). On the other hand, the agribusiness sector, to which almost half of the companies on the registry belong, is dedicated to the proposal to create a special section of the registry dedicated specifically to food companies.
