Anti-Counterfeiting Week 2026

The Value of the Historical Trademarks in Preserving Italian Identity

From October 19 to 23, 2026, the 11th edition of Anti-Counterfeiting Week will be held, organized by the General Directorate for Industrial Property —UIBM of the MIMIT—to raise awareness among businesses, citizens, and consumers about the issues of counterfeiting and “Italian Sounding,” as well as the protection of the Made in Italy label.

For companies that have built a strong identity over time, the “Historical Trademark” designation serves as an additional means of raising their profile and highlighting their authenticity, particularly in domestic and international markets.

This recognition does not replace trademark protection measures or efforts to combat counterfeiting, but it can help strengthen the brand’s identity and recognition by highlighting its history, continuity, and connection to Italy’s manufacturing heritage.

In this sense, Historical Trademarks can serve as a distinctive feature in efforts to promote and in initiatives dedicated to safeguarding authenticity and industrial property rights, offering businesses an additional tool to showcase and protect the value they have built over time.

Anti-Counterfeiting Week is therefore an opportunity to remind ourselves of how important it is to protect not only the product, but also the history, identity, and intangible heritage that make an Italian company recognizable.
