Historical Trademarks of Made in Italy: Cimberio

The January column in We the Italians magazine takes us to the shores of Lake Orta, in the heart of one of Italy’s most iconic manufacturing districts, to tell the story of Cimberio, a name that for nearly a century has embodied the evolution of Italian entrepreneurship between vision, quality and innovation.

Retracing the history of Cimberio means, in fact, retracing the history of an area and an era made up of young dreamers who thought like entrepreneurs without yet knowing it. It is 1927 when a very young Giacomo Cimberio, driven by intuition and courage, decides to start a brass machining business together with his friends Massimo Gioria, Giocondo and Giovanni Fortis. We are in the area that will become known as the Faucet District, one of the cradles of Made in Italy manufacturing.

Cimberio’s industrial growth phases between production expansion and manufacturing innovation

The following years are those of growth and expansion, supported by the post-World War II economic boom: customers increase, production grows, manufacturing techniques are refined. “F.lli Fortis-Cimberio-Gioria” grew until 1956, when the partners consensually decided to separate to ensure a solid future for their respective companies. Thus it was that Cimberio was officially born on January 7, 1957, with Giacomo immediately involving his son Renzo, then 19 years old.

Always active in the manufacturing sector, the company operates in B2B research, design, production and marketing of taps, valves, gate valves, fittings and components for water and gas distribution networks. In the 1960s, Giacomo Cimberio demonstrated an extraordinary ability to read the signs of economic change, investing in technologies and processes capable of maintaining high quality standards over time.

The company’s founding values-quality, reliability and innovation-are passed on from generation to generation: from Giacomo to Renzo to Roberto Cimberio, the current owner and CEO. Over the decades, Cimberio established itself as a major player in the production of brass valves for the plumbing and heating sector and, starting in the 1990s, began an important process of internationalization, with the opening of the first foreign subsidiaries.

A distinctive element of Cimberio’s history is the consistently consistent choice not to delocalize production, maintaining the heart of operations in the two factories in San Maurizio d’Opaglio and Berzonno di Pogno, in Cusio. An area that, together with Valsesia, represents a worldwide reference point for Made in Italy faucets.

Born as an artisan business, today Cimberio is a global company that continues to operate according to the vision of its founder, guided by the ideal of a virtuous balance between tradition and progress. It is not surprising, then, that it has fully entered the list of Historical Trademarks of Made in Italy: because its history is, to all intents and purposes, a story of Italian enterprise.

Today the challenges look to the future: new markets, changing international scenarios, environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. Cimberio has chosen to address them by investing in technology, digitization and artificial intelligence, with the goal of contributing to the development of smart buildings and increasingly sustainable solutions.

A Historical Trademarks that continues to dream, innovate and grow, without ever losing its connection to its history.
