I Historical Trademarks of Made in Italy: Ballet of Rome
The July column of We the Italians magazine dedicated to Historical Trademarks celebrates Balletto di Roma, one of the most representative entities of contemporary Italian dance.
Founded in 1960 by Franca Bartolomei and Walter Zappolini, the company has distinguished itself from the beginning for its vocation for Italian signature dance, combining tradition, innovation and research.
With more than 65 years of activity, Balletto di Roma is now a landmark in the national and international choreographic scene, thanks to a unique production model that combines the preservation of the historical repertoire with the promotion ofcontemporary choreographic creativity.
Over time, the Company has developed a sustainable system that integrates artistic production and professional training, the two fundamental pillars of its structure. A cultural project supported by public bodies such as the MIC, the Lazio Region, the Municipality of Rome, the European Community and the Italian Cultural Institutes abroad, as well as by the constant approval of the public, in Italy and abroad.

Recent successes include the China Tour 2023, which saw the triumph of the show Juliet and Romeo (choreographed by Fabrizio Monteverde) and the awarding of thePremiumEccellenza Italia at the China Awards 2023. This recognition gave impetus to the development of a new international tour in 2024 and 2025.

Under the managerial direction of Luciano Carratoni and the artistic direction of Francesca Magnini since 2018, Balletto di Roma has initiated an important generational renewal, activating dialogues with Italian and foreign institutions and universities. A cultural mission that looks to the future of new generations of dancers, enhancing the choreographic heritage of Made in Italy.
