October 3–7: The 7th Annual Anti-Counterfeiting Week
Promoting greater awareness—especially among young people—of the serious harm caused by purchasing counterfeit products online, both to consumer health and to the country’s economy, is the central message of the new communication campaign “Buying counterfeit products is never a good deal,” promoted by the Ministry of Economic Development, which will kick off on Sunday, October 2, to coincide with the seventh edition of Anti-Counterfeiting Week, scheduled for October 3–7.
Starting with the counterfeiting of cosmetics and sportswear—and without neglecting the protection of “Italian-sounding” agri-food products— the new campaign aims to raise awareness among citizens and businesses about a global phenomenon that requires both greater knowledge and a constant commitment from all parties involved in the fight against counterfeiting to identify new tools and preventive measures.
This year’s edition of Anti-Counterfeiting Week features a schedule of events, in-person conferences, and webinars that will focus on certain sectors (textiles and fashion, and cosmetics) that have been most severely affected by the phenomenon and are among those identified as priorities for action within the work agenda adopted by the CNALCIS (National Council for the Fight Against Counterfeiting and “Italian Sounding”).
The goal of the various workshops organized by the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE)—which will also feature the presentation of new studies on the impact of counterfeiting—is to strengthen operational synergies between government agencies and the business community.
Also significant is the participation of the major e-commerce platforms (Amazon, Alibaba, eBay, Meta, Google Italy, Yoox, TikTok), which will take part in the meeting scheduled for October 4 at the Salone degli Arazzi in Palazzo Piacentini; the event will also be streamed live.
An event dedicated to young people is scheduled for October 6 in Bergamo, at the Academy of the Guardia di Finanza, where—in the presence of Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti and Guardia di Finanza Commander-in-Chief Giuseppe Zafarana—the second edition of the “Anti-Counterfeiting Day for Students” will take place, with participation from the city’s high schools and other schools joining via video link from across Italy, as well as Italian schools abroad.
