Cavanna Group Joins the Association of Italian Historical Trademarks
Listed in the Register of Historical Trademarks of National Interest on June 3, 2026, Cavanna Group is one of the historic companies in the Italian packaging industry, with over sixty years of experience marked by innovation, technological research, and international expansion.
The company’s history began on March 16, 1960, when Mario Cavanna founded OMC in Borgomanero. In 1961, the first factory was built in Prato Sesia, where production of the SPEED WRAP packaging machines began, marking the start of a journey of growth and technological development.
In the years that followed, Cavanna gradually expanded its business, developing new packaging solutions and strengthening its presence in foreign markets. In 1970, an independent sales network was establishedin Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, which in 1971 was expanded to include South America, the United States, and Canada.
Innovation has consistently driven the company’s growth, with the development of new packaging machines, automation systems, and technological solutions. In 1979, the sole proprietorship became a corporation (S.p.A.), and in 1997, Alessandra Cavanna assumed the role of sole CEO.
A major generational transition took place in 2001, when Riccardo and Alessandra Cavanna became fully involved in the management of the company, working alongside founder Mario Cavanna. In 2004, the company further strengthened its international presence with the establishment of facilities in Brazil and the United States, while in 2005, the CARTESIO Robotics Division was created.
In 2007, the Cavanna Packaging Group was officially established, marking the beginning of a new phase of development for the Group. In the years that followed, investments in research and innovation continued, with new laboratories, R&D departments, and technologies dedicated to automation and packaging.
In 2021, Riccardo Cavanna assumed the role of President and Lead Strategist, and in 2022, the Group acquired Maspe’s business through CARTESIO Packaging Srl, strengthening its expertise in the cartoning sector. That same year, Cavanna published a white paper on flow-pack technology in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Turin.
In 2025, Cavanna will celebrate 65 years in business, building on an industrial history rooted in family continuity, research, and the ability to innovate.
Today, the Cavanna Group operates through production facilities in Italy, Brazil, and the United States and shares its expertise in the packaging industry with the world.
