Association of Italian Historical Trademarks in House hearing on craft and industrial GIs

On January 28, the Association of Italian Historical Trademarks spoke at a hearing at the 10th Production Activities Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, as part of the examination of the legislative decree outline on geographical indications for craft and industrial products.

Speaking for the Association were Deputy Vice President, Cav. del Lav. Armando De Nigris, and Director General Rocco Orefice, bringing to the attention of the Commission members the point of view of companies holding Historical Trademarks of National Interest.

During his speech, Cav. De Nigris stressed the strategic value of geographical indications for the protection of the national economy and historical production districts, highlighting the need to safeguard Italy’s manufacturing heritage from phenomena of evocation and value shifting to other countries. He also recalled the importance of mapping craft activities and raised the issue of coordination between pre-existing Historical Trademarks and new geographical indications to prevent disputes.

The Association will continue to follow the course of the measure, representing the demands of member companies in institutional venues.
