ICE Report 2024-2025 published: Italy and the challenges of the international economy

The ITA (Italian Trade Agency) has published the 2024-2025 edition of its traditionalReporton Italy in the International Economy, a landmark document that analyzes in depth global trade dynamics, macroeconomic scenarios, trade and actions to promote Made in Italy abroad.

This year’s edition, compiled with data updated to June 30, 2025, is set in an international context marked by increasing geopolitical tensions, economic instability and new trade barriers. Particular attention is paid to the recent tariff policies introduced by the United States in 2025, which have had a significant impact on global trade patterns and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

Among the highlights of the report:

  • World growth slowing down: global growth at 3 percent in 2024, but projected to decline to 2.8 percent in 2025. Advanced economies slow, while East Asia and India remain engines of global growth.
  • International trade in contraction: world merchandise trade, after +2.9% in 2024, is expected to decline in 2025 (-0.2%), then recover moderately in 2026. Global foreign investment dropped by 11% in 2024.
  • Italy protagonist amid lights and shadows: Italy showed good resilience in services exports and confirmed its attractiveness in some key sectors. However, there is a decline in inbound FDI (-24 percent) and the need to strengthen the international competitiveness of Italian companies is highlighted.
  • Promotion and digitalization: the Report devotes a specific section to ITA (Italian Trade Agency) actions, including enhancing digital services, attracting foreign investment and training activities for Italian companies.

The document is a key tool for companies, government agencies and stakeholders engaged in internationalization, offering data, trends and strategic thinking to navigate an increasingly complex global scenario.
